Cranial Abnormality

Due to heavy inbreeding  in USA is has been attempted to develop a special look of the Burmese cat; The so called "Contemporary" or  "New Look" Burmese.

The traditional - somewhat more old fashioned -  American Burmese is supposed not to include known carriers of the Cranial Abnormality

As a result of these experiments of changing the natural look of this breed some breeding lines carry a hereditary genetic defect that may cause the birth of kittens with deformed heads.

At the moment there is no test available that can disclose if a certain Burmese cat carries the defect. It needs knowledge of known carriers to establish the risk of carriers in the offspring.
